Seated on the banks of Pittsburgh’s Monongahela River, the University of Pittsburgh’s Center for Biotechnology and Bioengineering has won several awards for its design. This 90,000 square foot, 3-story building was built on the site of the former Jones & Laughlin Steel Mill in conjunction with the Pittsburgh Urban Redevelopment Authority. The South Oakland site is part of a larger technological park.
The Center sponsors 80 undergraduate students with studies in the fields of bioengineering, musculoskeletal research, chemical engineering, and tissue engineering.

The skill and attention to detail of the tradesmen assigned to our project reflects clearly in the reincarnated splendor immediately apparent upon entry to the space. Our thanks go out to the TEDCO team, who successfully coordinated the myriad aspects of this project against a tightly compressed time schedule. Perhaps the most telling indicator of this project’s success have been the comments from its’ daily occupants, who speak of ‘being the envy’ of their colleagues at other major institutions across the country. Your hard work has given the University community another gem of which to be proud, and for that, you have our profound gratitude.
